Mucha Museum (Prague)
Mucha Museum Situated a fair distance from the crowded tourist areas, hidden away behind a square. The museum had little advertisement, just a doorway into an Art Deco building on a street littered with them. The museum displayed not only the original prints of Mucha's renowned posters, but also the sketches, plans and ideas behind them; an insight into the style and concepts of the Art Nouveau movement. Personally, I found the sketchbook entries the most intriguing, perhaps because I had never viewed them before, or perhaps because they were so relatable; they proposed ideas, visions for larger works, and displayed the thoughts behind their large scale poster successors. The virtuosity of the drawings is striking. Produced in charcoal and chalks, they offer an intimacy not available with the commercial works.
